Light Therapy Ad On Aftercare: What to Do in the First 48 Hours

Light Therapy Ad On Aftercare: What to Do in the First 48 Hours image

Right after your 15-minute light therapy ad on, keep the treated area cool, clean, and calm for the next 24 to 48 hours. That means skipping heavy sweating, direct sun, hot saunas or steam, and anything oily or abrasive on the area. I see a lot of busy schedules in Short Hills, so I’m going to keep this simple and realistic. If you follow the next few steps, you’ll protect your results and avoid the most common reasons people feel like “it didn’t do much.”

The first 24 to 48 hours: sweat, heat, and oil are the big three

If you remember one thing, remember this: avoid heat and heavy sweat for 24 to 48 hours. Heat (including steam rooms, saunas, and very hot showers) tends to ramp up redness and irritation, and sweat can be a problem if it sits on the skin.

Quick rule for commuters: If you’re heading back out around NJ Transit, bring a clean tissue or blotting paper. If you get shiny or damp, blot. Don’t rub.

Cleansing and touching the area

I generally recommend a mild, water-based cleanser for the first couple of days. Keep it simple and fragrance-light if you can. Use lukewarm water, cleanse gently, and pat dry with a clean towel. And yes, hands off. Avoid rubbing lashes or brows, picking at the skin, or doing anything that feels “scrubby.”

Makeup timing (and the lash or brow add-on factor)

Makeup is typically fine after you’ve cleansed and your skin feels calm. But if I paired LED with a lash lift, tint, or brow service, I’ll usually ask you to wait a bit longer on that specific area so you don’t disturb the setting process. When in doubt, keep makeup off the lashes and brows for the first day and focus on skin makeup only.

Days 3 to 7: keep the glow, skip the “strong” skincare

Once you’re past the first 48 hours, most people can go back to normal. But if your skin tends to run sensitive, this is the week to be a little conservative. I’d rather you get a steady, even result than irritate the area and chase redness for days.

For 48 to 72 hours after LED, I recommend skipping exfoliants and anything that acts like an exfoliant. That includes retinoids, strong acids, chemical peels, abrasive scrubs, and rough cleansing brushes. Even if you love your actives, give your skin a short break.

And don’t underestimate sun exposure. In Short Hills, especially in September, the sun can still feel mild while your skin is quietly getting more UV than you think. If you’re popping over to The Mall at Short Hills or walking around the Millburn downtown corridor on Main Street, SPF matters.

LED light aftercare products that actually help (keep it simple)

You do not need a complicated routine after a light therapy ad on. In most cases, a few basics are plenty.

My short list for the first two days

  • Water-based cleanser: gentle, no gritty texture.
  • Light moisturizer: something that supports your barrier without heavy oils on the treated area.
  • Broad-spectrum SPF: apply before sun exposure, even on “quick errands” days.

If your LED was paired with a lash or brow service, I’ll point you toward formulas that play nicely with adhesives and tints. The main idea is to avoid oil-based removers and anything that encourages rubbing.

When to reach out to me (and what’s usually normal)

Right after LED, mild warmth or a little pinkness can happen, and it usually settles quickly. What I don’t want you doing is guessing, over-treating, or scrubbing because you’re anxious to “help it along.” If something feels off, I’d rather you reach out and ask.

“From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed and valued.”

Message or call if you have swelling that’s getting worse, a rashy reaction, or discomfort that doesn’t calm down. If you’re in Millburn, Maplewood, Summit, Livingston, Springfield, Chatham, or right here in Short Hills, I’ll help you make the next step simple and sane.

Want to add LED to your next visit? The light therapy ad on is 15 minutes for $40. It pairs nicely when you’re already in for lashes, brows, or skincare and you want a quick reset without extra downtime.
